Try your hand at this Colorado Wildflower Quiz
Summer in the Centennial State brings an astonishing array of wildflowers to the mountains, deserts and plains. This “Colorado Wildflower Quiz” celebrates some of my favorite blooms.
All photographs are original, taken by me while hiking in the Rocky Mountains and the canyonlands of the Colorado Plateau. In the mountains, the blooms tend to peak in July (these photos are mostly from June and July, across about five years). But August hikes will still afford a ton of great wildflower sightings.
I tried to corroborate my identifications across a few different sources, but PlantNet.org was definitely a star resource. That said, there were a few cases where I disagreed with its top picks. I am no botanist, so if you think an answer is misclassified, please let me know!
You can read more about some of the adventures that led to these photos:

A few more posts are still in the works.
Happy trails!
